Prescribe your patients with stem cell medicine within your field of expertise to treat a wide range of conditions. Patients’ stem cells are multiplied to more than 20 times their original concentration. The stem cells are sterile, infection risk-free and ready to be delivered back to your clinic to be administered to your patient for a variety of medicinal purposes. Prescribers may combine stem cell treatments with shockwave therapy (ESWT) to further accelerate healing.

What does Autologous mean?

Autologous Stem Cell therapy is the process of using a patient’s own adult stem cells, also known as somatic stem cells.

LifePlus uses cells derived from fatty (adipose) tissue. Stem cells are then processed, increasing the concentration, quantity and quality by more than 20 times, before being re-administered to the same patient for a variety of medical conditions.

How does this differ to bedside centrifuge techniques?

Other autologous techniques, such as Lipogems, uses a ‘one-size-fits-all’ bedside ball bearing shaker device or centrifuge approach, which merely separates fat from stem cells, re-injecting the same quantity of cells back into the patient – the actual number of stem cells never changes.

Such techniques do not multiply the cells, the cells are not analysed and the patient will not be provided with a certificate of analysis.

With LifePlus the extraction and isolation of adipose fat stem cells is performed through aspiration from the lower abdomen. The adipose tissue can be extracted in large quantities using an aspiration device (containing approx. 100 thousand stem cells) these cells will be grown and expanded in a GMP cleanroom facility (pharmaceutical standard) for up to 10 days, reaching quantities of up to 20 million cells. After this process, stem cells can be returned to the prescriber to be re-introduced to the patient for a variety of treatments, from orthopaedic conditions to aesthetic treatments.

Autologous Treatment Process Example

Screening and Assessment

The prescriber will carry out a full medical and behavioural screening process with the patient to ensure they are suitable for treatment. This stringent screening process will check for infectious disease markers to rule out anything that would cause risk. This must be done 30 days before treatment and then again on the day of treatment.

Recommended Adjunct

Shockwave Therapy ESWT using Storz Medical devices prepare the tissue by passing acoustic waves painlessly and directly through the skin. This activates the stem cells before they are extracted.

Extraction

Two x 10ml syringes of adipose fat removed in an HTA licensed premises, under local anaesthetic as a day case patient.

Transport

Adipose Tissue is then transferred to an MHRA licenced cleanroom facility at the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust hospital, London.

Separation

Using manufacturing techniques, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are segregated from adipose tissue and grown out over a 5-10 day incubation period.

Quality Control

Testing & analysis is then performed to distinguish the purity, quality and quantity of stem cells (MSCs) harvested, this will be up to 20 times more than originally collected. The quantity and quality of the stem cells harvested will vary from patient to patient (dependent on age, gender and various other factors) buy likely to be in the region of 15 - 20 million.

Storage

The stem cells are then frozen in 3 or 4 doses of approx. 2.5 million to 5 million stem cells per dose (depending on the total quantity harvested). Extra doses can be stored in a stem cell bank for future use.

Certificate

A certificate of analysis is then provided to the practitioner to give to their patient to certify the stem cells quantity, quality, purity, sterility and no risk of infection.

Application

Stem cells and then returned to prescriber via specialist couriers to administer back to the patient to treat a wide variety of conditions, for example, injected into the knee to treat arthritis. If arthritis is present in both knees the prescriber might use one dose for each knee.

Data & Compliance

Under the HTA Licence, patients’ information will be stored for a minimum of 30 years.
